International Fair 2010

The Knox International Fair (I-Fair) 2011 culminated Saturday in the Kresge Auditorium Saturday with the 30th annual I-Fair Talent Show.

The show was preceded with students flying their native flags and greeting the audience with their native tongue. The lobby of the Center for Fine Arts was adorned with displays by different cultural organizations.

The lobby was filled with a taste of the music and dance that was to come during the talent show.

Among other events during I-Fair was a screening of "The Namesake," lectures by Michael Schneider and Julio Noriega, and the International Buffet Lunch in the Oak Room earlier Saturday.

Charlie's blog finds

Supplemental: Eric Zorn's Change of Subject: http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/

Eric Zorn is a regular columnist and editorial board member for the Chicago Tribune. Thus, this would be a supplemental blog. Hooray. His blog is mainly published online, but some parts appear in the Perspective section of the Sunday Tribune.

I found two that may qualify as "commercial." The first probably does not. It doesn't meet the criteria for "supplemental," but it also has no advertisement, and it simply consists of links to Reuters articles. The second seems legit.

Positive Economic News (hahaha!): http://positiveeconomicnews.com/

CBS Money Watch, "The Financial Decoder" (sounds really trustworthy): http://moneywatch.bnet.com/economic-news/blog/financial-decoder/

Reading assignment

Please read the two chapters from the book that I passed out. Plus, I would like everyone to read the piece below. It is largely focused towards large corporations, but there are some good points that to take away on tone and building information that is interesting and engaging.

Live blogging

Here is the link to the NYTimes example of a live blog. Start thinking about what instances a live blog of an event would be beneficial to your readership/audience and when it's just extra work for you as a writer.
